Another renovation and decoration project. The client admires Rennie
Mackintosh designs so I repaired the chest of drawers and set about
creating my own design in the style of Mackintosh. The decoration
also needed to take in to consideration the shape of the chest and
the placement of the handles.
I finally decided to incorporate the handles into the overall
design, combine straight and curving lines using the straight lines
of the chest and the curves to create interest and movement. The
client's favourite colours are blues and purples and the room the
chest would be used in would be a soft warm yellow. I used a paler
tint of the yellow on the front of the chest to create a warm cream,
a blue with a slight purple tint for the top and sides and also
used this colour diluted to colourwash the inside of the drawers.
The flowers were painted using a variety of the clients favourite
blues and purples, the colours used for the flowers and leaves were
graduated from light to dark to give more interest to the overall
design. The chest was painted in emulsions, acrylics and finished
using acrylic varnishes.
