Through my contacts in Italy, I was asked to repair two ceilings
for Senori Bertone at their apartment on the Cote d'Azure.
The restoration of this Victorian decorated ceiling was a major
undertaking. The builders repair of the hairline cracks had resulted
in lines of filler/stucco being left across the painted ceiling
panel. There was also a stain of unknown origin, a couple of areas
where repainting had taken place and a some rust stains from the
later addition of gas pipes in the ceiling to fuel the "new"
centre light. An additional problem to overcome was the smooth texture
of the filler compared to the surprisingly rough texture of the
ceiling.
While I repaired and repainted the damaged areas, closely matching
the colours, I took care to retain the idiosyncrasies of the original
design. However I had to redesign the centre roses since the original
had been mostly obliterated.
